What are your favorite pre-packaged meals?

I need ideas please! I am doing weight watchers. I truly, truly do not like pre-packaged, processed foods, I have a pretty advanced and adventurous palate. But right not I need my lunches and some dinners to be pre-made and easy to heat. I am a stay-at-home-mom of three, I homeschool my kids, I am a writer, and I run a 200 family homeschool group, along with teaching other homeschoolers 1 day a week….so yeah I am busy!

I am used to buying only market fresh organic foods, grass fed meats and we even buy our milk and butter raw. So we only eat fresh ingredients. So even the fanciest retraunts in town have nothing on my food…lol  Right now though since I have gained all this weight it is impossible to eat this way. I need fast, quick and processed.

My problem is finding “the good stuff,” things that are prepackaged that actually taste yummy.

So far I like the lean cuisine pizzas and the lean cuisine santefe beans and rice is good too. I know everyone’s tastes are different but if you have a prepackaged meal you love please let me know!!!!

In your spare time (which I know you may have none) but you can do what I do during marching band season. I take a weekend and just do nothing but cook. I make all sorts of meals and then I put them in meal for one containers and freeze. Then my family can pick and choose what they want to eat for the night
I just have to defrost in microwave and heat
and the best part. Hardly any dishes to wash.

I like the Lean Cuisine Glazed Chicken–the Chicken is so tender and it is very low in fat and calories. I also like the Lean Cuisine Brick Oven Barbeque Chicken Pizza. WOW! You really are BUSY!!!

My favorites are the lean cuisine three cheese ravioli, and lean cuisine three cheese canelloni. I could live off these every day and not get tired of them. But I have very bland tastes, so I don’t know if you’d like them? The sauces are great though! (I’m a cheese addict too) So far these are the only ones I can eat regularly.

Kashi makes a line of frozen meals that I think are pretty good, and you may like the Amy’s line (I dont like them - they’re a little “too” healthy for my tastes). Good luck!

I’m not a big fan of processed food either. I find some of the lean cuisine and WW foods are okay but I don’t feel like I’ve had a proper meal. I am a big fan of cooking up a heap of meals and freezing them. I am so jealous that you live somewhere you have easy access to untreated organic foods. I wouldn’t be giving that up for the world. There is a web site called saving dinner. You can subscribe for her menu mailers - I don’t think they cost much. There are heaps of different ones and one is ‘freezer dinners’. She tells you how to pre-prepare evrything, put it in the freezer, then all you have to do is pull it out in the morning and toss it in your slow cooker. I don’t get her menu mailers but I have a couple of her cookbooks and they’re great.

I like everything from Lean Cuisine, Smart Ones, and Healthy Choice. The only exception is a dish from Heathly Choice called “cajun shrimp”. For some reason, it never cooks right, and it’s watery. Between the three brands, you sould find something that stimulates your palate. Oh, I know there’s an organic line called “Amy’s” I think, but I’ve never tried it myself.

Thank you everyone for the great suggestions! I will def give them a try.

I would love to make my own meals and freeze but, as embarassing as it is to admit I know I would cheat. With processed foods I know someone else made it using all lowfat ingredients. I would never cook that way and I already make seperate meals for my family cause I don’t want them eating the pre-packages stuff.

Of course after I lose the weight I will go back to eating healthy and homeade!

Yeah I am not a picky eater so I eat just about everything…I’d just have to suggest that you will just have to go out find different kinds and try them out then when you find the ones you really like then keep getting those. I hope that you can find what you want. And maybe someday when you won’t cheat I’d do the freezing thing too. My mom does that for me a lot. She’ll make some kind of soup and then we’ll freeze the left overs so that when I do lunch I can grab that throw it in the microwave and then go to town! LOL. Let us know what you decide!

If you have a trader Joes or Whole Foods near you I’d recommend their stuff. As a vegetarian, I like the Amy’s line of products - not super diet concsious but you can figure that part out. Also, I have been making veggie soups and stews to have several meals for each week. Quiche is a good one for that as well.

Where do you live? I toggle between Seattle Sutton and Choice eating pre-packaged fresh food delivery - and they ROCK! Super tasty, fresh, wholesome… the only ral drawback is it’s not available nationwide, but check it out - try just one week and see if it works for you, that’s what I did and it’s been great!
